Code of Conduct for Students

---

• All students of Silver Oak University shall compulsorily wear their university ID cards.
• The university expects all the students to behave in a manner expected of a responsible person.
• The students shall be dressed in a presentable manner which does not invite criticism.
• The students shall strictly adhere to the class timings and be punctual in attending all classes.
• The students shall maintain strict decorum of silence in the class when there is a change from one teacher to another.
• The students shall maintain absolute silence during the class hours and shall not indulge in any activity which disturbs either the teacher or the fellow students during class hours.
• The students shall speak to the teachers with utmost respect either during the class or outside class hours.
• The students should be polite in dealing with the employees of the University irrespective of the cadre to which the employee belongs.
• The students shall maintain the highest order of cleanliness in the classroom as well as in the college premises.
• The students should not indulge in noisy behaviour at any place within the university campus.
• The students shall follow the directions issued in common places such as the library, canteen, auditoriums, gymnasium, etc.
• The students shall strictly follow the schedules given by the class teacher regarding the assignments, class tests, examinations, practicals.
• The students shall follow the instructions given by the teacher during practical hours in relation to the use of laboratory, workshops, and equipment.
• When taken out on fields by the subject teacher, the students shall maintain discipline not only while travelling in the university vehicle but also in the place where they visit for the courses.
• Whenever the student has queries regarding their performance from either the class teacher or from any office in the university, they should follow the procedures laid down for the same and approach the concerned with utmost respect to the authority.
• The students shall follow all the norms of examinations.
• During the time of functions organized by the university, the students shall abide by the instructions given by the organizers.
• The students shall participate in different regional, state, national and international competitions and events.
• The students shall not indulge in unlawful activity at any place in the campus. The students should never take law into their own hands and report any matter of lawlessness or harassment to the vigilance cell or college authorities immediately who, in turn, will initiate suitable action.
• Any problem encountered by the students should be brought to the notice of the authorities immediately available in the university. The students should not indulge in any of the activities which adversely affect the reputation of the university.
• The students shall participate in patriotic events such as Independence day, Republic day, etc. organized by the university.
• Students should make use of the university's support systems to maximize their professional and emotional growth.
• Smoking and chewing of tobacco is strictly prohibited on campus. The students shall not consume prohibited substances such as alcohol, narcotics, marijuana, heroin, cocaine, or any other and shall not keep in their custody or in hostel premises illegal objects or materials.

Code of Conduct for Foreign Students

The foreign students who stay outside the campus will have to adhere to certain code of conduct as mentioned below.

• The students shall complete all due process at the Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO) and shall get renewal on a regular basis. Local mentor details should be submitted.
• They have to enter into a Rent Agreement with the owners of the accommodation and submit a copy of the same to the local mentor. And shall also inform the local police about their residence.
• Boys and girls should necessarily stay in separate accommodation.
• They shall not consume any narcotic substance such as marijuana, heroin, cocaine or any other.
• They should not play any loud music in their accommodation which would serve as a nuisance to the neighbours. They should maintain cordial relations with their neighbours and shall live in harmony with them. Moreover, they shall always maintain the social decorum by behaving politely, wearing appropriate attire so as to ensure the amicable living atmosphere with others.
• Whenever they leave town for any reason, they should necessarily inform the authorities in ISAC and also their counsellor.

Code of Conduct for Hostel Boarders

GENERAL

• All students shall abide by the rules of good conduct and shall respect the authorities of the university.
• Students shall put in efforts to protect the property of the university and make proper use of the facilities provided.
• No student shall deface or destroy any university or public property.
• Students shall maintain proper decorum in the hostel.
• Students shall not disturb the normal work of others in the hostel by disorderly conduct, noisy behaviour and unauthorized assembly.
• Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited.
• Consumption of alcohol or drunkenness or drug addiction or gambling within the campus is strictly prohibited.
• Violation of any of the regulations will be treated as an act of indiscipline and shall be brought to the notice of the warden by the concerned.
• The warden shall enquire into the matter and may implement immediate measures such as giving a warning, imposing a fine or debarring from the hostel for a period not exceeding one month.
• In further cases of serious indiscipline, a committee may be formed under the chairmanship of a senior teacher with two other teachers as members and the committee shall inquire into the act of indiscipline and suggest punitive measures to the provost.
• The decision of the provost in all these matters shall be final and binding on all concerned.

ADMISSION TO THE HOSTELS

• Any student admitted to any institution in the university is eligible to be admitted to the concerned hostel subject to the availability of accommodation.
• Application may be made to the warden of the hostel on payment of prescribed application fees.

PAYMENT OF HOSTEL FEES

• Every boarder in the hostel shall pay the prescribed fees from time to time.
• The hostel fees will be decided by the management running the hostels.
• In case, the prescribed fees are not paid in time, the boarder shall have to pay the fine as decided by the management of the trust.

BEHAVIOUR OF BOARDERS IN THE HOSTEL

• The boarders shall not change the room allotted to them by the warden without permission.
• The boarders shall keep their rooms neat and tidy and shall cooperate with the hostel management in safe upkeep of the common utilities provided to them.
• The boarders shall allow the warden to inspect their rooms whenever demanded.
• The corridors, toilets, reading room, TV room, mess etc. are common utilities provided by the hostel and it is the responsibility of every boarder to use them appropriately without causing any damage.
• The boarders themselves are responsible for the safety of their belongings and are advised not to keep any valuable items unattended in their rooms.
• Smoking and chewing of tobacco is strictly prohibited.
• Gambling in any form is strictly prohibited.
• The boarders shall not consume prohibited substances such as alcohol, narcotics, marijuana, heroin, cocaine or any other and shall not keep in their custody/hostel premises illegal objects/ materials such as firearms, missiles, bombs, narcotics, alcohol or other intoxicants etc.
• Viewing prohibited material on personal computers, laptops, mobile and other electronics devices will be strictly viewed as an act of indiscipline.
• No person other than the boarders shall be allowed to enter the hostel premises without the permission of the Warden.
• Boarders shall not allow any guests to stay overnight in their rooms.
• No hostel boarder shall stay outside the hostel beyond the permitted time without prior permission of the warden. Any violation of this provision shall be viewed seriously.
• Boarders shall treat all employees of the hostel with courtesy and respect.
• Boarders shall not hold any unauthorized meeting in the hostel premises.
• Boarders shall vacate the hostel during vacations to facilitate upkeep of the hostels.
• Boarders shall wear proper dresses when they visit the common room, dining hall or any public place in the university campus.
• Any complaint or grievances which the boarders have shall be reported to the warden immediately for redressal.

HOSTEL MESS

• All meals, breakfast etc. will be served only in the mess.
• The mess charges shall be collected along with the hostel fees.
• Boarders shall treat all mess workers with courtesy and respect. Food will not be taken out of the mess for any reason.
• Any complaints regarding the quality of food shall be brought to the notice of the hostel warden.
• The boarders shall strictly adhere to the timings of the mess. The boarders will have to be properly dressed while coming to the mess.

DISCIPLINARY ACTION FOR MISBEHAVIOUR AND VIOLATION OF REGULATIONS

• Any case of misbehaviour or violation of hostel regulations shall be brought to the notice of the hostel warden.
• In the cases of minor offences, the warden may impose punitive measures on the delinquent hostel boarders which may be issuing a warning, imposing a fine or expulsion from the hostel for a period not exceeding a month.
• In case, the offence is of a major nature like assaulting others, caught consuming alcohol, gambling, creating annoyance to other boarders by their behaviour in spite of warnings, the concerned warden shall form a committee consisting of a senior teacher as chairman and two other teachers as members to conduct detailed inquiry into the misconduct of the hostel boarder.

Code of Conduct for Teaching Staff

As a teacher, they should be honest, helpful, dedicated, resourceful, sincere, hardworking, unbiased and law abiding. Further, following code of conduct is to be practiced by them.

• Promote a positive, unbiased, and cooperative environment with colleagues, students, and other stakeholders.
• Set high standards of morality and ethics, inspiring students to follow these ideals for societal betterment.
• Abide by all university rules and regulations, maintaining the decorum expected of the teaching profession.
• Engage in research, participate in professional development activities, and actively pursue memberships in relevant professional bodies. Organize at least one program annually under CCE to contribute to student development.
• Perform all assigned duties effectively and responsibly, avoiding negligence.
• Adhere to Bloom’s Taxonomy in planning lectures, assessments, and student evaluations. Attend university training on CO-PO mapping as required.
• Be approachable and support students’ academic and overall development.
• Avoid engagement in any external paid work or activities that conflict with university responsibilities.
• Use university resources carefully and responsibly.
• Do not use mobile phones in class. Phones must be switched off or left behind during teaching sessions.
• Be punctual and prepared for lectures and lab sessions, ensuring classes start and end on time.
• Address issues through the relevant Head of Department (HOD) or Head of Section (HOS), and only escalate to higher authorities when necessary.
• Maintain the confidentiality of university operations and refrain from sharing sensitive information externally.
• Refrain from any statements that could harm the University’s reputation and uphold its values.
• Exhibit professional attire and refrain from using objectionable substances on campus.
• Personal guests are not permitted on the University campus during working hours to maintain a professional work environment and minimize distractions.
• The University upholds a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment. Any staff member found responsible will face immediate termination without notice and will be reported to the appropriate administrative authorities.

Code of Conduct for Non-Teaching Staff

• Always wear the university ID on campus and maintain professional attire as stipulated by the university.
• Interact respectfully and cordially with colleagues, students, and other stakeholders, fostering a cooperative and unbiased environment.
• Work with team spirit, maintain discipline and regularity, and contribute to a positive and motivational workplace.
• Perform assigned duties diligently and responsibly, avoiding negligence and prioritizing honesty and integrity.
• Utilize university resources carefully and refrain from careless or unauthorized use.
• Avoid unnecessary mobile phone use during work hours.
• Abide by university policies, including prohibitions on objectionable substances and respect for campus decorum.
• Be punctual, adhere to scheduled work hours, and obtain prior approval for absences. Notify the concerned authority in case of unforeseen leave.
• Address grievances first through the relevant HOD or Head of Section, maintaining respect for the administrative hierarchy.
• Protect university confidentiality, avoid making defamatory statements, and refrain from activities that could harm the university's reputation.
• Personal guests are not permitted on the University campus during working hours to maintain a professional work environment and minimize distractions.
• The University upholds a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment. Any staff member found responsible will face immediate termination without notice and will be reported to the appropriate administrative authorities.

Instructions for Visitors

We welcome all visitors to Silver Oak University and request your cooperation in adhering to the following guidelines to ensure a respectful, safe and productive environment for everyone on campus.

• Register at the security office upon arrival.
• Help us protect our natural surroundings by not picking flowers or damaging plants.
• Preserve our landscaping by using designated walkways and avoiding grass and manicured areas.
• Dispose of waste in the provided recycling and trash bins.
• Use recycling bins for paper, plastics and glass. Make sure items are clean before disposal.
• Limit the use of disposable items by using reusable water bottles, bags and utensils.
• Choose walking, or e-vehicles while on campus.
• Park only in the designated areas outside the campus and avoid idling your vehicle to minimize emissions.
• Use water wisely and conserve water in restrooms and other facilities.
• Save energy by turning off lights, fans and any other electronic devices when not in use.
• Smoking is strictly prohibited in the campus to ensure air quality and reduce litter.
• Refrain from using harmful chemicals or pollutants that could damage the environment.
• Personal guests are not permitted on the University campus during working hours to maintain a professional work environment and minimize distractions.
